In printing, Anilox is a method to transfer ink from the fountain roller (or directly from the fountain) to the flexo printing plate. An Anilox Roller is a hard cylinder, usually constructed of a steel or aluminum core which is coated by an industrial ceramic whose surface contains millions of very fine dimples, known as cells and in the most common configuration is an inverted pyramids. After engraving the cells on the surface of Anilox Roller with diamond engraving electronically controlled milling machine or more commonly the lasers, the surface of Ceramic Anilox Roller is covered with a protective layer of chrome or ceramic to guard against wear, in some configurations, the cells are engraved directly in a layer of ceramic.The characteristics of an Anilox Rollers determine the amount of ink that will be transferred to the plate: angle of the cells, cell volume, and line screen.
